SEAVA is proud to partner with SEAOI to present "An Overview of Mass Timber Connection Design Basics." Mass timber construction offers a unique combination of sustainability, adaptable design, and aesthetics that have given rise to dozens of elegant structures across the globe. With the recent code changes in the US, it is easier than ever for designers to use mass timber in bigger, taller buildings.

Proper design and detailing of connections are imperative for the performance of any structure, and timber design is no different. This presentation will address some of the important elements for mass timber connection design, including structural design provisions, fire-resistant connection design, and details to consider when using pre-engineered solutions such as beam hangers.

Presenter:

Lori Koch, P.E., is a Senior Product Engineer with MTC Solutions, where her work focuses on creating material to help engineers design efficient mass timber connections. She is a member of the NCSEA Education Committee, a board member for SEAVa, and a licensed PE in Virginia.
